Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 30, 2026

Clutch ("we", "our", or "us") provides AI-powered vehicle deal estimates, photo-based condition checks (SnapCheck), and a chat assistant (Axel). This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the privacy protections built into the product.

Information You Provide

Depending on the feature, you may provide: the vehicle you're researching, your self-reported credit score range, down payment range, trade-in details, mileage and condition, a cash price you're considering, your ZIP/postal code or city, travel dates for rentals, photos of a vehicle for SnapCheck, and questions you type to our assistant Axel. If you purchase a subscription or single estimate, payment is handled by Stripe — we never see or store your card number.

Photos — Analyzed, Then Discarded

When you use SnapCheck or add photos to an estimate, your photos are sent once to our AI provider (Anthropic) to assess the vehicle's visible condition, and are then immediately discarded. We do not store your photos on our servers, and no one — including us — can view them afterward. Only the text results of the analysis (such as the condition score, findings, and repair estimates) are kept.

How We Use Your Information

Your inputs are used to generate your results: they are sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) to produce your Deal Score, condition report, or chat answer, and your location is sent to weather and geocoding services (Open-Meteo, Zippopotam) to analyze local climate. We log anonymous clicks on dealer and rental links to understand which recommendations are useful, and we use Google Analytics for anonymous, aggregate usage stats that do not identify you.

Data We Store to Improve Clutch

To make Clutch's estimates sharper over time, we keep a record of the results we generate — such as the vehicle type, region, Deal Score, condition findings, repair estimates, and (if you choose to share it) what you actually paid. This is tied only to a random, anonymous device identifier — not your name, email, or exact address — and is stored in our secured database (Supabase). We use it to analyze accuracy and improve the service. We do not sell this information.

What We Don't Do

We do not sell your personal information. We do not run a credit check — your credit range is self-reported and never verified. We do not store your photos. We do not require an account, name, or email to use the core features.

Data Stored on Your Device

Clutch stores some data locally on your device (such as recent activity, free-usage counts, and preferences) so the app works smoothly. You can clear it anytime by clearing your browser or app data.

Third-Party Services

We rely on: Anthropic (AI analysis), Supabase (secured database for results), Stripe (payments), Vercel (hosting), Google Analytics (anonymous usage), and Open-Meteo / Zippopotam (weather and location). Each has its own privacy policy. Dealer and rental links open third-party sites we don't control.

Your Choices

You can use Clutch without providing photos or a vehicle name. You can decline the optional "what did you pay?" follow-up. You can clear locally stored data anytime. For questions about the anonymous results tied to your device, contact us below.

Children

Clutch is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

We may update this policy as Clutch grows. Material changes will be posted on this page with a new date.
